Media content management

Media content management supports management of metadata and enables management of that data for content management, product management, and content presentation.

Media content management is controlled via the Operator Console, allowing easy access to the metadata items for viewing and editing.

The Operator Console is authenticated against a central user datastore that can be integrated to the operator's SAML service (e.g., Active Directory) to support operator users’ single sign on.

VOD and EPG metadata ingest

OpenTV supports ingest of VOD and EPG metadata from XML files or directly via our API. The file ingest supports a NAGRA XML format or other formats via an XSL stylesheet that converts the file into NAGRA’s data structure. The XML can reference images that will be ingested and (if needed) converted into appropriate variants for the user experience.

EPG data can be automatically ingested from Gracenote (if licensed) for an operator's line up.

Product management

OpenTV supports mapping content (live or VOD) into products that group that content for purchase. Products can be then bundled into offers that group products into a single purchasable item.

An example structure would be:

  • Gold bundle containing:
    • Base live channels
    • Premium live channels
    • Base VOD
    • Premium VOD
  • Base bundle
    • Base live channels
    • Base VOD

Products in OpenTV have availability dates and a base price per currency. When integrated with a CRM system, the CRM would typically set the final price for a user, taking into account their existing purchase and any promotions.

Content management

OpenTV supports organising and curating live and VOD content. Live content is loaded from XML/API as an EPG and is editable via the Operator Console for quick corrections. Channel order, names, logos, and availability can be set and then channels can be linked into products. Live channels can be configured to support Short-Term Catch-Up (STCU) using the encoder buffer, Long-Term Catch-Up (LTCU) by creating VOD assets, and network recording (nPVR) for user-triggered recording.

VOD assets are managed in a tree-based node structure that allows content items to be placed in one or more nodes that make up the VOD catalogue. Nodes can then in turn be used in defining products or editorial curation to enable purchase or display of the content in the user experience.
