SCALABLE SERVICE PROTECTION

DVB/IPTV/OTT converged security

This feature is all about enabling content and service protection seamlessly across connected DVB, IPTV multicast, and OTT unicast networks. This is mainly interesting for traditional Pay-TV Operators like satellite, cable, and telco companies that are commercializing Pay-TV services across multiple networks and looking for full consistency and simplicity in managing access controls.

SSP as a single platform brings security in a converged way to all the different networks. Which means Pay-TV operators no longer need to run a separate security platform per network – which is expensive, not consistent, and operationally complex.

SSP recognises that traditional operators are extending (not disappearing) and provides the logical extensions to help them migrate from broadcast to a full-IP solution whilst retaining their existing broadcast capability (business model, use cases, and features). Typically, SSP answers the following questions that are often asked by operators that are in the middle of an ALL-IP transformation:

  • How to add incremental security features or use cases to the existing platform?
  • How to create Pay-TV offers (products, channels, rights) that are agnostic to networks (e.g., a subscription product offering channels via traditional and OTT networks)?
  • How do a bring traditional business models/features such as PPV (pay-per-view, blackout, etc.) when moving to OTT?
  • How to move from card-based CAS to cardless CAS or from CAS to DRM technology progressively?
  • How to not increase middleware/application complexity while supporting different client platforms?
  • How to manage closed and open devices consistently?
  • How to bring the right security to the right context?
  • How to embrace Android TV without losing security?

In summary, the NAGRA Security Services Platform, as part of this DVB/IPTV/OTT converged security feature, allows operators to completely abstract the differences between content protection technologies (CAS vs. DRM) and bring control across all supported networks in a converged and consistent way, while supporting the traditional Pay-TV business model and use.
